COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2005 Gold Cup, a United States Archery Team (USAT) qualifying tournament was held this past weekend in Bloomfield, N.J., with Jason McKittrick (Holton, Ind.) and Khatuna Lorig (Bloomfield, N.J.) taking the top spots for recurve, while Braden Gellenthien (Hudson, Mass.) and Jamie Van Natta (Toledo, Ohio) claimed victories for compound.
In the men’s recurve category, 2004 Olympic Team Alternate McKittrick beat two-time Olympian Vic Wunderle (Mason City, Ill.) 110-108 in the finals to win the gold, while 2005 World Target Championship Team member Joe McGlyn (Floral Park, Ill.) took third place after defeating Shawn Rice (Stephenville, Texas) 109-104 in the bronze medal match.
For women’s recurve, 2005 World Target Team member Lorig, a native of the Republic of Georgia, defeated Nasreen Bakht (New York, N.Y.) 106-97 to claim the gold. Olga Usherenko (Oakland, N.J.) won the bronze after beating Dawn Chudy (College Station, Texas) 99-92.
Gellenthien won the 2005 Gold Cup in the men’s compound bow category after getting past David Roth (Lowell, Mich.) 116-114 in the finals. John Dudley (Sparta, Wis.) won the bronze defeating 2005 World Team member Dave Cousins (Standish, Maine) 117-115.
For the compound women, Van Natta won her second consecutive Gold Cup after defeating Brittany Lorenti (Trumbull, Conn.) 113-111. Marleigh Bogumil (Pittston, Twp., Pa.) took the bronze, defeating Amanda Raffaelli (Bartonville, Texas) by a final match score of 109-105.
