ATHENS, Greece - Following Thursday's ranking round, pairings were set for the men's and women's round of 32 elimination, which will take place tomorrow and Monday.
For the U.S. women, who will compete tomorrow, August 15, 19th ranked Jennifer Nichols (Cheyenne, Wyo.) is set to face 46th ranked Rina Dewi Puspitasari (INA) at 8:30 a.m. Stephanie Arnold (Portland, Ind.), who is ranked 36th, will match up against 29th ranked Melissa Jennison (AUS) at 3:57 p.m. Three-time Olympian Janet Dykman (El Monte, Calif.), who finished the ranking round in the 44th spot, will face 21st ranked Alison Williamson (GBR) at 4:20 p.m.
In the men's round of 32 elimination, which will be held Monday, August 1643rd ranked 2000 individual silver and team bronze medalist Vic Wunderle (Mason City, Ill.) will shoot against Majhi Sawaiyan of India, who is ranked 22nd at 9:24 a.m. At 11:11 a.m., 47th ranked John Magera (Carterville, Ill.) will face number 18 Cheng Pang Weng (TPE). Four-time Olympian Butch Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.), who is ranked the highest of the U.S. men at 16th, will shoot against 49th ranked Ron Vanderhoff (NED) at 6:12 p.m.
In the "round of 32" elimination, each archer shoots one match of 18 arrows at 70 meters. There will be four targets on the field, with two archers shooting head-to-head on the left side and two shooting against each other on the right, alternating on each arrow. At the end of the day, there will be 32 archers remaining for the round of 16, which will take place on the 17th for the women and the 18th for the men.
Archery competition will take place at Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896, and it is built on top of the ancient Stadium dating from 329 B.C. The competition will take place from August 15-21.
