ATHENS, Greece – Jennifer Nichols was eliminated from individual competition today after losing a close match to Korea’s Yun Mi Jin.

Nineteenth ranked Nichols (Cheyenne, Wyo.) stayed within one point of number three ranked Jin after the first six arrows, shooting a 54 to Jin’s 55. On her 12th arrow, Nichols shot a seven and was unable to come back after Jin shot three four tens in a row on arrows 10-13. The final match score was 168-162, in Jin’s favor.

“I was more confident in this match than I was in my last two,” said Nichols. “I was prepared before the match for whatever was going to happen and I did my best. I am content with the outcome.”

Next up for Nichols is the team round on Friday, August 20, where the U.S. Team of Nichols, Stephanie Arnold (Portland, Ind.) and three-time Olympian Janet Dykman (El Monte, Calif.) will take on Greece in the first round at 9:51 a.m.

Vic Wunderle (Mason City, Ill.), the 2000 Olympic individual silver and team bronze medalist for the U.S. will take on 27th ranked Haifeng Xue (CHN) in the men’s round of eight on Thursday at 8:56 a.m. The men’s team round will take place Saturday, August 21, with the U.S. facing Sweden in the first match of the day at 8:30 a.m.

Archery competition is taking place at Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896, and it is built on top of the ancient Stadium dating from 329 B.C.
