Wunderle, DeBusk, Cousins, Davis Claim National Field Titles; 2006 World Field Team Named

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The National Field Championships/World Field Trials were held in Spokane, Wash. June 9-11 and hosted by the Evergreen Archery Club. Two-time Olympian Vic Wunderle (Mason City, Ill.) won the National Field Title for the male recurve category while Melanie DeBusk (Cody, Wyo.) took the title for women’s recurve. Dave Cousins (Standish, Maine) claimed his seventh National Field Title for men’s compound and Jahna Davis (Helena, Mont.) took first in the women’s compound category.

Wunderle took the National Field title for men’s recurve for the second year in a row finishing the competition with a score of 664. Joe McGlyn (Floral Park, N.Y.) finished in second with 631 and four-time Olympian Rick McKinney (Sacramento, Calif.) took third with a score of 610.

DeBusk finished in first place in the women’s recurve category with a score of 547. Debbie Krienke (Weatherford, Texas) took second with 536 and last year’s National Field Champion Aya La Brie (Aurora, Colo.) finished third with 534.

In the male compound category, Cousins took first with 716, while Rod Menzer (Sheboygan, Wisc.) finished second with 710 and Josh Miller (Whitelaw, Wisc.) took third place with 709.

For the compound women, Davis finished in first with 706, while last year’s National Field Champion Jamie Van Natta (Toledo, Ohio) took second with 684 and Nancy Zorn (Warrenville, Ill.) took the third spot with 681.

Other winners at the 2006 National Field Championships include: men’s barebow – Mark Applegate (Grass Valley, Calif.), women’s barebow – Rebecca Nelson-Harris (Auburn, Calif.), master men’s barebow – Harold Rush (Payson, Ariz.), master men’s recurve – David Brandfass (Lighthouse Point, Fla.), master men’s compound – Wayne Davidson (Peoria, Ariz.), junior boy’s recurve – Alden Harris (Auburn, Calif.), junior girl’s recurve – Maku Wood (Tucson, Ariz.), junior boy’s compound – Benjamin Human (Port Isabel, Texas), cadet girl’s compound – Keshia Heinrich (Cody, Wyo.)

The 2006 National Field Championships also served as the World Field Trials. The 20th World Field Archery Championships will be held August 27 – September 2 in Gottenburg, Sweden. The following archers will represent the U.S. at the World Field Championships:
